Charges Filed in Inquiry into Illinois Bus Driver | Crime-and-Courts


BELLEVILLE – A 30-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a St. Louis MetroBus driver in East St. Louis, authorities said.

Isaiah Houston, of the 5900 block of Harney Avenue, has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of resisting arrest / detention / arrest while fleeing , according to a statement from Captain Jon Ramos of the Major Case Squad of Grand Saint-Louis. Bond was set at $ 60,000. The charges were issued by St. Louis County District Attorney Wesley Bell.

Houston was arrested as a “person of interest” on Monday night after police saw him driving a car that authorities believe was linked to the bus driver shooting, according to Ramos. He walked away from the police, but they caught up with him near Grehling Drive and arrested him, the statement said.

Bus driver Jonathan Cobb, 33, of East St. Louis, slammed his bus into a tree in the 3400 block of Lucas and Hunt Road around 7 p.m. Friday after being hit by gunfire.

Houston has not been charged with shooting Cobb.

Cobb remains in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital. Her sister, Charna Wooten, said on Monday that her brother was fighting for his life.

Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, along with 20 detectives, continues to investigate the shooting and seek additional charges in the case, Ramos’ press release said.
