UNLIKE the 157 CCTV cameras installed in police stations and police stations which have developed 13,699 faults over the past five years, the 18 cameras installed in the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) (UT), Praveer Ranjan, Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) (UT) Kuldeep Singh Chahal and other parts of Sector 9 Police Headquarters have reported no misconduct for the past five years, an RTI response filed by The Indian Express.

At least eight CCTV cameras are installed in Ranjan’s office and nine in Chahal’s office. The response to the RTI filed by The Indian Express revealed that no CCTV cameras had been installed in the office of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (UT), Deepak Purohit and SSP (Traffic/Security) Manisha Choudhary .
Sources said CCTV cameras at police headquarters are installed in the IPS officers’ visitor rooms, the gallery and the entry and exit points of the headquarters.

In addition to police stations and police stations, four CCTV cameras were installed at the Economic Crimes Wing (EOW), two at the Crime Branch, Sector 11. The response revealed that although no independent cameras were installed in the Operations Cell, Sector 26, which keeps an eye on anti-terrorist activities, the officer concerned replied that some cameras installed at the Police Station in Sector 26 cover the Operations Cell. Similarly, the recently formed District Crime Investigation Unit (DCIC) in Sector 24 also lacks independent CCTV cameras. The response revealed that five cameras installed at the Sector 24 police station cover the premises of the DCIC, which is on the first floor of the police station building.

A total of 6,379 complaints were received from police stations where 103 out of 157 CCTV cameras were installed. No less than 7,320 complaints about various defects were received from 11 police stations where 54 CCTV cameras were installed.

These cameras are usually installed in the bedroom of each Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Manager, at the entrance of the police station/police station, in the gallery covering many rooms, including the Chief of Police’s bedroom Moharrir (MHC), who maintains the records of the police station and storage room (malkhana), the front part of the police station inside the police station, etc.

Complaints about faulty CCTV cameras were received at the Chandigarh Police Communications Wing between January 2017 and May 2022. The wing has been servicing CCTV cameras installed in police stations and police stations since 2014 .
