Arrest made in connection with a homicide investigation

Birmingham Police Service reports detectives have obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the murder of Raymond Cotton Jr. Raymond Cotton Jr. was shot dead on Christmas Day at a residence on the 40the West Street.

The suspect has been identified as:

Micah Spratt, (40), B / M, from Dallas, TX

Birmingham Police detectives have presented information about the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an evaluation of the information, the detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

On December 31, 2021, Micah Spratt was arrested in Dallas, Texas, by patrol officers from the Dallas Police Department. He is currently being held by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office pending his extradition to Jefferson County Jail where he will be held on $ 250,000 bail.

Birmingham Police Department is investigating homicide. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 25, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:

Raymond Cotton Jr., (42), B / M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m., officers from the North Constituency were dispatched to 25, 40th Street West with a report of a shot dead person. Officers arrived at the scene and saw the victim lying motionless on the front porch, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene and transported the victim to UAB hospital where she succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was heading for the front porch when she was approached on foot by one or more unknown suspects. The unknown suspect (s) shot the victim, fatally injuring her; the suspect (s) then fled.

Currently, there is no one in custody.
