LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Investigators hope an unreleased video of a car leaving the scene of a shooting last year could provide clues or even lead them to the murderer of a 29-year-old man.

Someone killed Daniel Montes-Rodriguez outside a business on Lexington Street near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard on the morning of November 14, 2020.

Detectives believe Montes-Rodriguez may have been in the area to meet someone, although there is no record of a planned meeting in communications found by investigators. The shooting likely took place around 5:30 a.m., police said.

The vehicle in the video, which police say is a dark-colored van, is seen heading toward Carey Avenue a few minutes later. The video timestamp is one hour ahead.

It was not until shortly before 7 am that a shopkeeper who opened the day noticed the body of Montes-Rodriguez on the sidewalk. Montez-Rodriguez’s truck was still driving.

“He came here and he was doing well,” said Samuel Montes-Rodriguez, Daniel’s younger brother. The brothers immigrated from Mexico to the United States shortly after the murder of their younger sister, Samuel said.

Daniel was working as a welder and eventually started his own business, his brother said.

“We can’t understand why, before going to work, he drove to this intersection,” said homicide lieutenant Ray Spencer. “We have a video showing him arriving from a house down the street. We can show the car stopping, but there is nothing that actually shows the shooting. “

At this point, the only clue that could lead the police to a suspect is the video. The alleged minibus is the known witness.

“It’s possible that the van is a suspect,” Spencer said. “Or it is possible that this van was visiting someone in the area and passed by accident after the shooting or even before. We cannot determine the exact moment when he was shot and killed.

Samuel said his brother had enemies, especially after bidding on construction work on his own. He thinks his brother’s killer probably knew him and that he was someone Daniel trusted.

“He trusted someone close to him too much,” Samuel said. “And that guy, or that person, killed him. You’re gonna pay for it, like karma, you know?
